Staff Spotlight – Cecil Patton

Tell us a little about yourself! What inspired you to become a teacher?

I taught in the classroom for twelve years, and I have been a dyslexia therapist for six years now. I enjoy helping children discover their strengths and become successful readers and writers.

What brought you to Magnolia Speech School, and what excites you most about being here?

Katy Agnew! We go to church together, and she told me all about the great things going on at Magnolia Speech School. I love the sense of community here at MSS–it is like no other! And I enjoy seeing students grow. Celebrating their achievements is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

What is your favorite part of working with our students?

One of my favorite parts of my job is reading great books with my students. If you ever need a recommendation or want to borrow a book, I have plenty!

What is your go-to coffee (or favorite morning) order?

Iced coffee with a splash of half and half

What is one fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know?

My first teaching job was in the Bronx!

Outside of the classroom, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my husband and three busy daughters. And when I am not on a soccer field sideline, I enjoy playing tennis, cooking, and reading.

What is one goal you have for this school year?

My goal is to help our kids become confident, independent learners.
