Classes Offered at Magnolia Speech School
Magnolia Speech School provides an auditory/oral education program for children with hearing loss and language disorders. We provide all students with the listening, speaking, and literacy skills needed to reach their full educational and personal potential. We offer full day classes for 11 months of the year. Magnolia Speech School offers specific language activities and academic instruction in the classroom supported by auditory training, speech and occupational therapy services as needed. Music, computer lab, and library are also provided to all students.
Instruction for each student is determined by his/her Service Plan, which includes specific goals from the Magnolia Speech School Checklist of Skills.
The curriculum includes the following Subject Areas:
- Receptive Language
- Expressive Language
- Auditory Processing
- Social Studies
- Association Method
- Fine Motor
- Gross Motor
- Social Interaction
Instructional techniques at Magnolia Speech School include language activities that require active learning. Staff members model, shape, and expand spoken language throughout the entire school day (in the cafeteria, on the playground, in the library, on field trips, etc.). Students learn that with speech they can control their environment and be successful. We monitor student progress with an annual standardized assessment, criteria-referenced testing, and ongoing language sampling and analysis.
