Staff Spotlight – Brianna Butler

Tell us a little about yourself! What inspired you to become a teacher?

I am from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I am the oldest and have 5 other siblings. I am 25 years old. Just graduated with my Masters in Deaf Education from Washington University in St. Louis. Growing up I was on an IEP and had differentiated instruction in smaller group settings which is where my inspiration for becoming a teacher came from. My kindergarten teacher was my role model for teaching and along the way I had so many other amazing teachers who also inspired me. But I led to Deaf Education because I had a professor in undergraduate school who was an excellent mentor for Speech and Hearing Sciences!

What brought you to Magnolia Speech School, and what excites you most about being here?

Well, coming from Washington University in St. Louis we were connected to Central Institute for the Deaf and I had seen so many similarities between the two schools. What excites me most is starting my journey as an educator and getting my first class. Also everybody I have met and spoken to from the school has been nothing but the sweetest most supportive coworkers I have ever had!

What is your favorite part of working with our students?

My favorite part about working with students with hearing loss is being able to support their individual needs with individual instruction and how helpful and supportive we can be to these families.

What is your go-to coffee (or favorite morning) order?

I love an iced matcha latte with oat milk or iced coffee with oatmilk.

What is one fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know?

I did cheerleading in high school.

Outside of the classroom, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Listen to music, going to concerts, and reading.

What is one goal you have for this school year?

Grow and learn as a first year teacher.
