Welcome to our Interim Executive Director!
We would like to welcome our Interim Executive Director, Leatha Phillips! Leatha will be manning the MSS ship for the next few months, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her with us. We recently sat down with her to ask some get-to-know-you questions:
- How long have you been working with children and where did you work before MSS? I retired from education after twenty-nine years of working with teachers, students, and families. I have taught second grade through eighth grade. I have been a school administrator at the elementary and middle school levels. I have worked in many districts across our state from Desoto County to Crystal Springs in various roles.
- What made you want to work at MSS? I love to see children learning and being apart of the teaching learning process as a school leader. After being retired for a few years, I have been able to reconnect to my love for student learning at a most wonderful school.
- What are your hobbies? Traveling is my absolute favorite thing to do. I have an adventurous spirit and exploring new places brings me great joy!
- What is your favorite thing about working at MSS? Working at Magnolia Speech School gives me the opportunity to see firsthand the love and care that the teachers have for our students. I am amazed by the level of commitment the teachers and assistants have for our school and in meeting our school goal of preparing students to be successful communicators in other school settings.
- What can you not start your day without? To begin my day, Diet Coke and my morning devotion are a must!
- Give us a fun or weird fact about you! To some it seems amazing that I can fold a fitted sheet. 😊
