Meet Our Staff – Catherine McComas

Catherine McComas – Teacher Assistant

How long have you been a teacher and where did you teach before MSS?

Prior to Magnolia, I was a 2nd grade teacher in the Starkville School District for a year and a half. I moved back home and was a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher in the Vicksburg Warren School District for 3 years. I then went on to serve on staff at FBC Vicksburg as a preschool director for 9 years.

What made you want to teach at MSS?

I have felt a stirring in my heart to be back in the classroom for the past couple of years. After my husband and I found out David would attend Magnolia, I applied for a teacher’s assistant position and a prayer was answered. I am so excited to be part of the Magnolia family and to be back in the classroom!

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies outside of work consist of spending time with family/friends, shopping, and following my children around to their various activities.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?

My favorite part about being a teacher is seeing a child’s face light up the moment he or she grasps a new skill or concept, and then seeing the confidence that comes with applying that new skill.

What can you not start your day without?

I cannot start my day without coffee!!

Give us a fun or weird fact about you!

I stayed overnight in the Mississippi Aquarium on a Girl Scout trip with my oldest daughter.
